Dr. Bedgood is a 1991 graduate from the University of Georgia with a degree in Microbiology. Shortly after graduation he served in the United States Army during Desert Storm I. In 1993, he graduated with a Masters of Biology Degree from Georgia College and worked as an Environmental Consultant for the Department of Defense. He decided to go to medical school, after he realized he would prefer to work with people rather than dirt. He was fortunate to obtain a full academic scholarship to Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internal medicine internship at the State University of New York at Binghamton. He completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology/hepatology fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia. During his fellowship, he received the prestigious Research Fellow of the Year Award from the American College of Gastroenterology.

After completing his fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia, he was sent to Iraq, where he served as the Chief Medical Officer for 21,000 soldiers and civilians. While being deployed to Iraq, he was the first physician to ever take his Board certification exam in a combat zone. He passed on his first attempt, despite being asked to stop the exam to get in a bunker. After returning from Iraq, he joined Gastroenterology Associates of Central Georgia, LLC. During his first six months in Macon, he was awarded the Community Teacher of the Year from the Mercer University School of Medicine.

Dr. Bedgood retired in March 2010 from the Georgia Army National Guard after more than 22 years of military service at the rank of Colonel. His most valued accomplishment is his three children: Amber, age 21; Joshua, age 8; and Jacob, age 7.

He holds privileges at the Medical Center of Central Georgia and Regency Hospital in Macon, Georgia.
