Information: Associate Professor Of Surgery; Mercer University School of Medicine
Director of Gastrointestinal Research and Clinical Trial Center of Georgia

Dr Sedghi graduated from Kings College and Westminster Medical School, University of London in 1986, giving him over 25 years of experience. He subsequently completed 8 years of post graduate training to include a residency in internal medicine from Mercer University (1991) and gastroenterology fellowship at Loyola School of Medicine (1994). During his training he was awarded the ACG/Schering Clinical Achievement Award (1991). He is board certified in gastroenterology and is a fellow of the American Gastroenterology Association. He serves as an Associate Professor of medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine where he teaches both medical students and residents.

While he treats all aspects of gastroenterology, he has a particular interest in treating Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients which includes Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis. He is actively involved with the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. He currently has an “IBD house” which minimizes unnecessary admissions and testing for patients. He also utilizes mid level providers in a team approach which allows for patients to be seen in office and avoid ER visits when possible. He places great emphasis on diet and holistic options in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders and medicine in general.

Dr Sedghi believes that his medical training in both England and the United States has given him the opportunity to learn different perspectives on how patients should be best treated. He has been continually involved in research since his training days, and continues to participate in numerous clinical trials which enable him to offer his patients state of the art treatments. He serves as the director of Gastrointestinal Research and Clinical Trial Center of Georgia. He has multiple publications in scholarly journals and has presented at national gastroenterology meetings to include American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterology Association, Clinical Research, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, World Congress of Gastroenterology, and American Association for The Study of Liver Diseases. He is experienced in advanced endoscopy to include endoscopic gastroplication, endoscopic resection of large polyps/lesions, ERCP, colonoscopy and EGD.

Realizing the need for change in healthcare delivery, Dr Sedghi has taken the lead and has formed the largest independent physician operated Accountable Care Organization (ACO) in Georgia, Georgia Partners for Accountable Care (GPAC). An ACO is an organization that aims to provide quality care at lower costs in the hopes of increasing patient satisfaction.

Dr Sedghi is married with three children. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with friends and family whom he considers to be his primary focus in life.
